KIAC WOMEN’S TENNIS  BYLAWS

  1. Regular season plans

a.       Each team will play every conference member school twice during the regular season, weather permitting, once at home and once at the opponent’s home court.  The results from regular season conference play will determine the seeding for the conference tournament.

b.      Conference play may take place at any time during the season, but must be completed at least one week prior to the conference tournament.

 

  1. Post Season Tournament Plans

a.       The conference tournament will be held the last weekend of October or the first weekend in November.  The tournament will be a flighted event, with a back draw round.  The winner of each round of a flight will be given 1 point, with ˝ point awarded to the winners of each round of the back draw.  The team with the most points total from the main draw and the back draw will be the Tournament Champion and the team with the second most points will be the Tournament Runner-up.

 

b.      Site of tournament

The site of the tournament is held annually at the French Lick Springs Spa & Resort Tennis Center in French Lick, IN. 

 

c.       Entry Fee

The entry fee will be included in the annual KIAC Membership Dues.  Each team is required to provide 12 unopened cans of Penn or Wilson Tennis Balls.

 

d.      Tournament Draw and Seeding

The tournament draw and seeding for each flight will be determined by the KIAC coaches at a scheduled coaches meeting held one week prior to the start of the KIAC Conference Tournament. 

 

e.       Rules of Play

1.       USTA Rules will be implemented for the KIAC Tournament.  Each match in the main draw will be a best 2 out of 3 sets, with a twelve-point tiebreaker used when necessary.  Matches in the back draw will be decided by a pro-set.

2.       The order of play will be determined by the Tournament Directors.

3.       Coaches will be allowed to coach according to USTA guidelines, unless otherwise agreed upon.

 

  1. Statistical Reports

 

A.      Scores for the preceding week must be reported to the sport chair by  7:00 pm on Sunday.

 

B.      All scores, statistical reports and player of the week nominations must be reported to the KIAC Sports Information Director by 7:00 pm each Sunday. 

 

C.      Updated information will be on the conference Web Page by Tuesday evening.  Coaches are encouraged to use the score reporting form on the web page after matches. (This does not replace your need to call in scores)

 

D.     Failure to report scores to the chair and all information to the conference SID will result in the following sanctions:

1.       First miss – reminder letter

2.       Second miss – Probation letter from Conference commissioner

3.       Third miss – student-athletes ineligible for post-season awards

4.       Fourth miss – team ineligible for post-season competition.

 

E.   Conference SID will be responsible for releasing weekly reports and player of the week.  Also will be responsible for making sure web page is updated.

 

 

 

 

  1. Conference Awards and Selection

1.       The 12 All-Conference Recipients will be based on the results of each flighted division in both singles and doubles.  The winners of each respective flight will be the All-Conference Selection.

2.       The Player of the Year will be selected by a ballot by the KIAC coaches.

3.       The Coach-of-the-Year will be selected by a ballot of the coaches.

4.       The tournament champion will be the conference champion and will be awarded a plaque.

5.       The tournament Runner-Up will be the conference runner-up and will be awarded a plaque.

6.       KIAC Scholar-Athlete Team.  All tennis players who have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average after at least one semester at the KIAC institution shall be named to the Scholar-Athlete team.  The list of qualifying students must be submitted to the conference chair prior to the tournament.  The conference chair will submit the list to the conference SID and the conference commissioner.  Schools will be given certificates from the commissioner’s office which they may complete and present to the student athletes.

 

 

  1. Regional Play Representatives

a.       The KIAC does not receive an automatic bid to the Region XII tournament since there are less than 5 conference schools that sponsor tennis.  The regional tournament participants are the champion and runner-up of the Appalachian Conference and the top two ranked independent teams in the region.

b.      In the event the conference has six participants in Women’s Tennis, the Conference Tournament Champion and Conference Tournament Runner-up will be the representatives in the Region XII tournament.
