KIAC MEN’S TENNIS BYLAWS

  1. Regular season plans

 

a.       Each team will play every conference member school twice during the regular season, weather permitting, once at home and once at the opponent’s home court.  The results from regular season conference play will determine the seeding for the conference tournament.

b.      Conference play may take place at any time during the season, but must be completed at least one week prior to the conference tournament.

 

  1. Post Season Tournament Plans

 

a.       The conference tournament will be at least one week prior to the NAIA Regional tournament.  The date will be set at the Fall KIAC meeting.  The conference tournament champion will be the representative at the NAIA Region XII tournament.  In the event the champion cannot represent the conference, the KIAC Runner-up will advance to the Regional Tournament.         

 

b.      Site of tournament

The site of the tournament will rotate alphabetically among the KIAC members.

* The host college must have at least 8 tennis courts in order to host the conference tournament.

 

c.       Entry Fee

The entry fee will be included in the annual KIAC Membership Dues.  Each team is required to provide 12 unopened cans of Penn or Wilson Tennis Balls.

 

d.      Tournament Draw and Seeding and Structure

Seeding for the conference tournament will be based on regular season head to head play.  However, if these results should not resolve the issue, the first step in making this decision should be to common opponents and those results (match scores). The last criteria should then be the games won and lost.

i.        Once seeding has been determined, the #1 Seed will play the #4 Seed and #2 Seed will play the #3 Seed.

ii.   The winners of the first round will play for first and second place; while a consolation       round would consist of the two first round losers.

 

e.       Rules of Play

1.      USTA and ITA Rules will be implemented for the KIAC Tournament.  Each singles match will be a best 2 out of 3 sets, with a twelve-point tiebreaker used when necessary, while doubles matches will be one eight game pro-set, with a 12-point tiebreaker at eight games all.

2.      The order of play will be determined by the Tournament Directors.

3.      Coaches will be allowed to coach according to USTA guidelines, unless otherwise agreed upon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Statistical Reports

 

 

A.      Scores for the preceding week must be reported to the sport chair by  7:00 pm on Sunday.

 

B.     All scores, statistical reports and player of the week nominations must be reported to the KIAC Sports Information Director by 7:00 pm each Sunday. 

 

C.     Updated information will be on the conference Web Page by Tuesday evening.  Coaches are encouraged to use the score reporting form on the web page after matches. (This does not replace your need to call in scores)

 

D.     Failure to report scores to the chair and all information to the conference SID will result in the following sanctions:

1.      First miss – reminder letter

2.      Second miss – Probation letter from Conference commissioner

3.      Third miss – student-athletes ineligible for post-season awards

4.      Fourth miss – team ineligible for post season competition.

 

E.      Conference SID will be responsible for releasing weekly reports and player of the week.  Also will be responsible for making sure web page is updated.

 

Effective Date:  August 1, 2003

 

4.  Conference Awards and Selection

 

1.      A Player of the Year will be selected by a ballot of the coaches.

2.      An All Conference Team will be voted on by a ballot of the coaches.

3.      The Coach-of-the-Year will be selected by a ballot of the coaches.

4.      The tournament champion will be the conference champion and will be awarded a plaque.

5.      The tournament Runner-Up will be the conference runner-up and will be awarded a plaque.
