KIAC MEN’S SOCCER BYLAWS

1.  Regular Season Plans

 

A.      Each participating conference member must schedule and play every team in the conference during the regular season.

 

B.      Any conference team that cancels and does not reschedule a match with a conference opponent will be barred from participating in the postseason KIAC tournament.   Allowances will be made for exceptional situations as determined by the conference commissioner and executive committee.

 

C.      Officials for conference games shall be assigned by the registered NISOA chapter assigner; an official must be registered by NISOA to work conference games.

 

1.       All conference games must be officiated by no less than a three-person crew (referee and two linesmen).  If a three-person crew is not available at the set match time the following guidelines apply:

 

a.       The teams are to wait a minimum of 15 minutes for the third official.

b.      If no third official arrives then an agreement, in writing, to play the game as is, or with an alternate official (linesman) may be accepted by both coaches and filed with the commissioners office.

c.       If no agreement can be made the game shall not take place.  The home team will play the match at the visiting team’s home site and bear the cost of officials.  The playing date is to be mutually agreed upon.  If no date can be agreed the games is to be played the first Monday of November, or at another date determined by the commissioner.

d.      Considerations to be taken into account, and can be amended as needed by the commissioner of the KIAC, if Section 1 Article A Item 1 and Section 1 Article B involve the same teams.

 

2.  Conference Post-Season Championships

 

A.      The Brine NCAA Championship soccer ball is the official NAIA ball and shall be used for all conference tournament games.

 

B.      The team with the best record in regular season conference head-to-head  play will be the conference regular season champion and the top seed for the conference tournament.

 

C.      The conference tournament will be seeded at the conclusion of the regular season.  Seeding will be based on the conference season record.  In the event of a tie they will be broken in the following manner:  (The conference commissioner has final say in any disputes involving seeding.)

1.       Head to Head competition

2.       Goal differential (conference play only)

3.       Goals scored (conference play only)

4.       Overall season winning percentage

5.       Coin flip

E.      Dates of play

1.       First round matches will be played at the site of the higher seed on the Wednesday prior to the final four. 

2.       Semifinals will be held on Friday at Noon and 2:30 pm, with the finals held Saturday at 1:00 pm.  For 2004 the dates are November 3, 6-7.

3.       The site for the KIAC Fiinal Four will be awarded to the KIAC regular season champion. If the conference regular season champion is unable to host the championship, it will be awarded to the conference runner-up.

In order to secure the championship site and allow for travel arrangements, KIAC regular season play will conclude at least 10 days prior to the first round play in the KIAC tournament(play completed by no later than the Saturday 10 days prior to the first Tuesday of the tournament). Scheduling for the KIAC regular season play will be block scheduling, done two years in advance, by the sport chair. The schedule will be submitted to the conference commissioner for approval.

 

 

4.       Sites for the next six years:

2004 - Berea

2006 – Bethel

2007 – Brescia

2008 – MidContinent

2009 – Spalding

2010 - Asbury

           

F.      Officials for the conference tournament championship games shall be assigned by the registered NISAO Chapter assigner in conjunction with the conference soccer chair and the KIAC commissioner.  A fourth official (bench official) is mandated for all post season matches by the NAIA.  The conference chair, in agreement with the conference commissioner, may request officials other than the ones assigned. 

 

G.     Officials fees and expenses for the conference championship tournament will be paid by the KIAC.

1.       Admission must be charged and all gate receipts are the property of the KIAC.

2.       Host institution and soccer chair are responsible for filling out proper paperwork to pay officials.

3.       Host institution is responsible for providing scorers, scoreboard operators, statisticians, sports information, ball boys and other auxiliary officials. 

 

H.      The conference tournament champion will be the KIAC’s top seed into the Region XII championships.  The remaining places will be filled in the order below.

1.       Regular season champion

2.       Regular season runner up (as seeded in the tournament)

3.       Regular season third place (as seeded in the tournament)

 

 

 

3. Statistical Reports

 

A.      Scores for the preceding week must be reported to the sport chair by  7:00 pm on Sunday.

 

B.      All scores, statistical reports and player of the week nominations must be reported to the KIAC Sports Information Director by 7:00 pm each Sunday. 

 

C.      Updated information will be on the conference Web Page by Tuesday evening.  Coaches are encouraged to use the score reporting form on the web page after matches. (This does not replace your need to call in scores)

 

D.     Failure to report scores to the chair and all information to the conference SID will result in the following sanctions:

1.       First miss – reminder letter

2.       Second miss – Probation letter from Conference commissioner

3.       Third miss – student-athletes ineligible for post-season awards

4.       Fourth miss – team ineligible for post season competition.

 

E.      Conference SID will be responsible for releasing weekly reports and player of the week.  Also will be responsible for making sure web page is updated.

 

Effective Date:  August 1, 2003

 

4. Awards

 

A.      The KIAC provides the following awards for women’s soccer.  Awards will be ordered by the conference commissioner in time to ship to the host site. It is the responsibility of the soccer chair to give the list of award winners to the commissioner and conference SID by no later than the Monday after the tournament.

1.       All-KIAC team consisting of 12 players elected by a vote of the coaches.

a.       Each coach may nominate, in writing, a 12-player team to the soccer chair.

b.      Each coach may nominate up to four of his/her own players.

c.       The nominations must be received by the soccer chair prior to the conference tournament. 

d.      All players nominated will be put on a master ballot and voted on by the coaches.

 

2.       An offensive and defensive player of the year will be selected by vote of the coaches.  Goalkeepers can be voted as part of the defense.  The POY must be one of the 12 KIAC team.

 

3.       A Coach-of-the-Year selected by a vote of the coaches.

 

4.       KIAC Scholar-Athlete team.   All men’s soccer players who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 after at least one completed semester at a KIAC institution shall be named to the Scholar-Athlete team.  The list of qualifying students must be submitted to the conference chair prior to the tournament.  The conference chair will submit the list to the conference SID and commissioner.  Schools will be given certificates from the commissioner’s office which they may complete and present to the student-athletes.

 

5.       Tournament champion and tournament runner-up trophies are award.
