KIAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL BYLAWS
Sport Chair for the KIAC:
- Regular season plans
A. Each team will play every conference member school twice during the regular season. This double round robin format will determine the seeding for the conference tournament. Each team will compete with St. Louis Pharmacy once during the year, according to the addendum attached in section five.
B. Seeding is determined by double round robin play in the regular season. The team with the best record in conference play receives the top seed for the tournament and so on. St. Louis College of Pharmacy is seeding according to winning percentage, but no higher than 4th, unless undefeated when they will be seeding 2nd.
Two-way ties will be broken in the following order:
Ø Head to head competition
Ø Record against next highest seed in conference
Ø Point differential in head to head competition
Ø Coin flip by conference commissioner
In the event of a three way tie for a spot
Ø Record within the group
Ø Record against next highest seed in conference
Ø Point differential in head to head competition
Ø Coin flip by conference commissioner
C. Conference play may take place at any time during the season, but must be completed by no later than one week prior to the conference championship.
D. The team with the best record in conference play will be the regular season champion and receive the top seed in the conference tournament.
- Conference Post-Season Championship
A. The tournament will be held the weekend designated by the NAIA.
B. In 2005 the dates are February 24-26.
C. The tournament is a single elimination event, with first round games on Thursday, semifinals on Friday and the finals on Saturday.
D. The winner of the tournament will be the KIAC Champion and receives an automatic bid to the NAIA championships.
E. The site of the tournament is rotated annually in alphabetical order. Upcoming sites are:

G. The KIAC assigner of officials will assign the officials for the conference tournament.
H. Officials’ fees and expenses for the conference championship tournament will be paid by the KIAC.
1. Admission must be charged and all gate receipts are the property of the KIAC.
2. Host institution and women’s basketball chair are responsible for filling out proper paperwork to pay officials.
3. Host institution is responsible for providing scorers, scoreboard operators, statisticians, sports information, and other auxiliary officials.
I. The conference tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament.
- Statistical Reports
A. Scores for the preceding week must be reported to the sport chair by 7:00 pm on Sunday.
B. All scores, statistical reports and player of the week nominations must be reported to the KIAC Sports Information Director by 7:00 pm each Sunday.
C. Updated information will be on the conference Web Page by Tuesday evening. Coaches are encouraged to use the score reporting form on the web page after matches. (This does not replace your need to call in scores)
D. Failure to report scores to the chair and all information to the conference SID will result in the following sanctions:
1. First miss – reminder letter
2. Second miss – Probation letter from Conference commissioner
3. Third miss – student-athletes ineligible for post-season awards
4. Fourth miss – team ineligible for post season competition.
E. Conference SID will be responsible for releasing weekly reports and player of the week. Also will be responsible for making sure web page is updated.
Effective Date: August 1, 2003
- Awards
A. The KIAC provides the following awards for women’s basketball. Awards will be ordered by the conference commissioner in time to ship to the championship host site. It is the responsibility of the women’s basketball chair to give the list of award winners to the commissioner and conference SID by no later than the Monday after the tournament.
1. The conference will recognize 10 all conference players.
a. Nominations will be submitted to the women’s basketball chair the Monday prior to the conference tournament.
b. All nominations must be accompanied by complete statistical information, as determined by the NAIA, to be eligible for all-conference consideration.
c. Coaches will vote for ten players in rank order. Each place will receive the corresponding number of points. (e.g. The top player on each ballot will receive 10 points, the second player 9, and so on).
d. The top ten vote getters will be the all-conference team and will be eligible for other postseason honors.
e. The top five will constitute the all-conference first team, and the next five will be the second team.
2. Player-of-the-Year
The top vote getter in all-conference balloting will be the player of the year.
3. The Coach-of-the-Year will be selected by a ballot of the coaches.
4. The regular season champion will be named conference champion and will receive a trophy.
5. The tournament winner will be named the KIAC Tournament Champion and receive an automatic bid to the NAIA tournament and will receive a championship trophy.
6. The tournament runnerup will also be awarded a trophy.
5. Other Items
A.
1. SLCOP would be given special consideration under the conditions outlined here:
a. SLCOP would play a single round robin, competing with each team once during the regular season.
b. SLCOP would be seeded into the conference tournament based on winning percentage in the games they played, however, unless undefeated in conference play SLCOP could not be seeded higher than fourth. If undefeated in conference play SLCOP can be seeded 2nd.
c. SLCOP would be the seventh team in conference play. Home and away matches for conference play are defined below. Matches follow a similar patter to men’s basketball in order to facilitate travel and possible doubleheader’s and sharing of transportation. Women’s basketball does have one more team than men’s.
