KIAC BASEBALL BYLAWS
Sport Chair for Baseball: Kevin Kocks, Spalding
- Regular season plans
A. Each participating conference member must schedule and play every team in the conference during the regular season.
B. With a seven-team conference each school will play 18 regular season conference games.
C. Competitions will be three-game series on Friday and Saturday, with a single, nine-inning game on Friday, and two seven inning games on Saturday.
D. The baseball chair will determine the schedule at least one year in advance in consultation with the coaches and with the approval of the KIAC commissioner.
E. Competition will typically begin the third week of March and go through the last week of April.
F. Every effort must made to reschedule rainouts, and teams must play at least 75% of the scheduled conference games to qualify for the KIAC post-season championship.
G. Eric Harmon will schedule officials for KIAC competition through the 2003 season.
H. The team with the best record in conference play will be the conference regular Season Champion, and the top seed for the post-season tournament. If teams have not played an equal number of games, but have met the minimum standard for qualification, the team with the best winning percentage in conference play will be declared the conference champion. If the issue is not clear-cut it will be resolved by the conference commissioner.
- Conference Post Season Championships
A. A double-elimination tournament will determine the KIAC tournament champion.
B. Date of tournament will be one week prior to the Region XII tournament.
C. The tournament will be held at
D. Seeding
1. Regular season conference standings will determine seeding.
2. In the event of a tie for a position it will be broken in the following manner:
a. Head to head competition
b. Season winning percentage
c. Coin Flip
3. Disputed seedings will be resolved by the baseball chair in consultation with the KIAC commissioner.
E. Eric Harmon will assign the officials for the KIAC tournament through the 2003 season.
F. Officials fees and expenses for the conference championship tournament will be paid by the KIAC.
1. Admission must be charged and all gate receipts are the property of the KIAC.
2. All advertising revenues raised for the tournaments are property of the KIAC and most be reported on the conference tournament financial voucher.
3. Host institution and soccer chair are responsible for filling out proper paperwork to pay officials. Officials’ vouchers, gate receipts, advertising revenue, and financial statement must be sent to the KIAC treasurer within 48 hours of the completion of the tournament.
4. Host institution is responsible for providing scorers, scoreboard operators, statisticians, sports information, ball boys and other auxiliary officials.
G. The conference regular season champion will be guaranteed a place in the Region XII tournament, but seeding will be based upon tournament finish. The top two finishers in the baseball championships besides the regular season champion will be the second and third representatives to the Region XII tournament. Seeding into the tournament will be:
1. Tournament Champion
2. Tournament Runner-up
3. Regular Season Champion (if not Tournament Champion or Runner-up)
4. Tournament
- Statistical Reports
A. Scores for the preceding week must be reported to the sport chair by 7:00 pm on Sunday.
B. All scores, statistical reports and player of the week nominations must be reported to the KIAC Sports Information Director by 7:00 pm each Sunday.
C. Updated information will be on the conference Web Page by Tuesday evening. Coaches are encouraged to use the score reporting form on the web page after matches. (This does not replace your need to call in scores)
D. Failure to report scores to the chair and all information to the conference SID will result in the following sanctions:
1. First miss – reminder letter
2. Second miss – Probation letter from Conference commissioner
3. Third miss – student-athletes ineligible for post-season awards
4. Fourth miss – team ineligible for post season competition.
E. Conference SID will be responsible for releasing weekly reports and player of the week. Also will be responsible for making sure web page is updated.
- Awards
A. The KIAC provides the following awards for women’s soccer. Awards will be ordered by the conference commissioner in time to ship to the host site. It is the responsibility of the soccer chair to give the list of award winners to the commissioner and conference SID by no later than the Monday after the tournament.
1. An All conference team of 17 (according to NAIA rationale) members elected by a vote of the coaches. (coaches may choose a second-team all-conference, but no plaques or certificates will be awarded).
2. One player of the year as determined by the coaches.
3. One pitcher of the year to be determined by the coaches.
4. One coach of the year as determined by the coaches.
5. One regular season champion trophy.
6. One tournament champion trophy.
7. One tournament runner-up trophy.
- Regional Play Representative
A. Postseason bids from the KIAC to the region XII tournament will be issued in this order:
1. 1st bid goes to the Regular Season Champion.
2. 2nd and 3rd bids go to the top two finishers in the KIAC Post-Season Tournament other than the regular season champion.
3. All disputes will be settled by the KIAC commissioner.
- Miscellaneous items
A. Diamond will be the official ball through the 2004 season.
