Berea, Ky. (May 6th, 2013) - The KIAC released the softball all-conference team, player of the year, pitcher of the year and coach of the year Monday, May 6th.
Point Park University junior Ashley Morran was named the KIAC player of the year. Morran was near the top in the conference in several statistical categories. She was 8th in batting average (.390), 2nd in slugging percentage (.816), 1st in runs scored (43), 1st in runs batted in (55), 1st in doubles (15) and 2nd in homeruns (13). In addition, she was ranked in the top 20 nationally in homeruns and runs batted in.
Indiana University Southeast Jenna Swain was named the KIAC pitcher of the year. Swain finished the season with the 4th best earned run average in the conference (2.49). She was also 2nd in opposition batting average (.189), 4th in strikeouts (95), 1st in strikeouts per game (11.25), 4th in wins (10) and 2nd in saves (3). She also ranked in the top 20 nationally in opposition batting average and strikeouts per game.
Indiana University Southeast head coach Joe Witten was named the KIAC coach of the year. Witten led the Grenadiers to the KIAC regular season championship and the tournament championship. They finished 23-3 in conference play and are currently 36-7 overall. IU Southeast won their fifth KIAC Tournament Title in seven seasons and advances to the NAIA Softball National Championship Tournament.
